Burn.app News

----------

16.06.2011
Today, CDPlayer.app 0.5.1 has been released.
This release does not bring any new features, but is merely a maintenance release to make it compile and run on OpenBSD. Thanks to Sebastian Reitenbach for providing the necessary patches.
CDPlayer.app can be downloaded here.

21.05.2005
Today, Burn.app 0.4.1 has been released.
Among others the following features have been added:
  • The cdrecord and cdrdao backends are now able to handle ATAPI devices. This, however, requires fairly recent versions of those tools.
  • ISO image files may now be opened with a double-click or 'gopen' (Burn.app registers for suffix .iso).
  • The miniwindow for the BurnProgress panel now displays the progress.
  • Add functionality to plug-in audio converters, i.e. bundles that convert arbitrary audio formats into wav files.
  • The cdrdao backend bundle is no longer part of the release, but can be downloaded separately from the site mentioned below. This is to avoid bloating the install package with stuff only few people will use.
  • Add a converter bundle for MP3 files. This bundle is not part of the release, but can be downloaded separately from the site mentioned below. This is to avoid bloating the install package with stuff only few people will use.
  • See Burn.app's change log for more details.

20.10.2003
Today, Burn.app 0.3.5 and CPPlayer.app 0.4.0 have been released.
Among others the following features have been added:

Burn.app:
  • Burn.app employs only one (main) window changing it's contents, when CD descriptions are opened or closed.
  • The BurnParameters panel went away. Instead the parameters appear now in the main window (most important settings) and in the prefs panels (less important stuff).
  • Burn accepts tracks being dragged from CDPlayer's track list.
  • Burn can now use the TOC service provided by CDPlayer 0.4.0.
  • Burn now offers one service allowing it to add selected audio CD tracks (e.g. CDPlayer 0.4.0) as well as files.
  • Support for Cddb/FreeDB has been removed. As Burn is supposed to no longer handle audio CDs on its own, but to get the related data from CDPlayer (or any other similar app), Cddb support has become obsolete here. It should be handled in the application providing the source track data.
  • Burn.app has an on-line help, now.
  • Lots of changes in the GUI.
  • And many more. See CHANGELOG for details.

CDPlayer.app:
  • Added a service providing the CD's TOC as "AudioCDPboardType".
  • Added FreeDB support using Yen-Ju Chen's Cddb.bundle.
  • Added a primitive track list being able to display the number and duration of tracks.
  • The track list serves as dnd source for Burn.
  • Added an online help for use with Nicolas Roard's HelpViewer.
  • Cyclic polling of drives is now done in a separate thread in AudioCD.bundle. That makes the whole app more responsive and relieves users of the bundle from having to do the polling themselves.
  • Several changes in the GUI.

Both programs can be downloaded here.

18.02.2003
Today, Burn.app 0.3.0 has been released.
Among others the following features have been added:
  • The discrimination between audio and data projects has gone. There are only projects now containing audio as well as data. This means that you cannow create mixed mode CDs (_not_ CDplus!).
  • The track list employs icons now, to distiguish between different track types.
  • The CD list has gone from the project view. It is in a separate panel, now.
  • 'Add File(s)' has gone. Files are being added using GWorkspace and Dnd or services.
  • Burn.app now uses CDPlayer.app's AudioCD.bundle to load audio CDs and read their TOC.
  • Burn.app can now blank CD-RW.
  • And many more. See CHANGELOG for details.

18.11.2002
Today, GSburn.app 0.2.2 has been released.
It is a maintenance release fixing mostly bugs in the burning progress panel. See CHANGELOG for details.
01.11.2002
Today, GSburn.app 0.2.1 has been released.
The following features have been added:
  • Composing of audio projects using DnD with GWorkspace.
  • Services are available to add audio files to a project or start a new project with selected files.
  • Access of FreeDB to retrieve CD information. This can be done automatically on loading of CD. This feature uses Yen-Ju Chen's FreeDB bundle.
  • The cdrdao bundle now also accepts au files (SUN audio format).
  • Several new icons and other eye candy.
07.10.2002
Today, GSburn.app 0.2.0pre has been released.
The following features have been added:
  • GSburn.app now encapsulates all external tools in bundles. Thus, it is easy to integrate own ripping/burning tools.
  • The progress panel has been re-engineered. It looks much nicer now and displays more useful information.
17.09.2002
The mailinglist for GSburn.app users has been opened.
16.09.2002
Today, GSburn.app 0.1.1 has been released.
The following features have been added:
  • GSburn.app can now also use cdrdao for burning CDs.
  • Audio projects now allow editing of track titles, CD titles, and CD artists for nicer display.
11.09.2002
Today, the first version of GSburn.app has been released. It's version 0.1.0. You find it at Sourceforge.
GSburn.app 0.1.0 is thoroughly tested, but still in an alpha state, i.e. it might be that it does not exactly what you expect it to do. Also, it still lacks tons of features. What you get is the following:
  • Compilation of audio CDs from .wav and .au files as well as from a source CD.
  • Projects can be saved for later reuse.
  • Multiple copies of the same CD by starting the process only once.
  • Progress indication of ripping and burning processes.
  • Good-looking and easy-to-use interface.
